The creations shown here have been designed by Steve Cushing, a Lotus Energy member, using reclaimed materials. Wood, roots, branches and forgotten objects are given a new purpose, with character and imagination.
Each piece of found wood becomes the starting point for a unique lamp, mounted on a base and finished with a shade.
Every lamp begins not with a drawing, but with an encounter: a piece of wood discovered while walking.
Driftwood, a fallen branch, an old root or an unusual fragment from the ancient forests around us: every discovery already possesses its own form, markings and history.
Depending on what it needs, the wood is soaked, brushed and carefully cleaned, then allowed to dry very slowly over many months. Its moisture content is checked regularly. Only when we are satisfied that it is clean, sufficiently dry and completely stable do we begin imagining what it might become.
We do not try to make the wood perfect. Knots, old insect holes, cracks and unexpected shapes are evidence of its journey, and we deliberately leave them visible.
We then study the particular piece to understand how it wants to stand, where the cable should run, and whether it needs a base or a shade. It is shaped and finished entirely by hand.
Finally, a tough, low-sheen protective finish preserves the wood without concealing its grain, colours or natural character.
The result is a practical work of art shaped as much by nature as by us. There will never be another one exactly like it.
Lotus Energy Reimagined puts care for the environment at the heart of its creations. We make durable, recyclable objects and develop a range from reclaimed materials.
Our solid-wood pieces are made from local wood that has fallen naturally in storms. Branches, roots and trunks become handmade lamps and decorative objects.
We also give new purpose to other materials, including selected metal bicycle parts. Every object is a one-off and carries the story of the material from which it came.
